Traffic.com's Integration of Cellular Signaling Data in Salt Lake City Gets Green Light

Wayne, PA—Through Partnership With The Utah Department of Transportation, Traffic.com Will Provide Real-Time, Accurate Traffic Information With Free, Personalized Mobile Services To Drivers Traffic.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:TRFC), a leading provider of accurate, real-time traffic information in the United States, announced today that its inclusion of cellular signaling data as part of the provision of comprehensive, real-time traffic information in the Salt Lake City area has been approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Through FHWA's Transportation Technology Innovation and Demonstration (TTID) program, Traffic.com has partnered with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to build and operate a system of digital traffic information. This traffic data will be provided free to drivers and to UDOT for roadway planning purposes such as general operations, construction scheduling, severe congestion management, and predicting short-term traffic trends. Traffic.com, with its subcontractor Berkeley Transportation Systems, will also provide additional software management tools for UDOT.

As the traffic technology leader in major metropolitan areas across the U.S., Traffic.com has utilized numerous innovative traffic data collection methods, including advanced technologies like wireless digital traffic sensors, toll tag tracking, and GPS-derived data. This robust data engine allows Traffic.com to produce up-to-the-minute, comprehensive traffic information which can be delivered to consumers and partners across multiple platforms.

In the Salt Lake City area, Traffic.com will integrate another method of data collection by using traffic flow information from cell phone data, a kind of 'probe data.' Traffic.com will use technology from AirSage, a corporation that creates quality traffic information from anonymous cellular signaling data, to provide UDOT with real-time speed and travel times for major roads. The AirSage data will complement UDOT's existing CommuterLink(R) traveler information system, enhancing and reinforcing the traffic information produced. The project is expected to be in use within the next 18 months.

These new enhancements benefit Salt Lake City drivers by providing them with the real-time, customized traffic information they need for free - when, where and as often as they need it. Drivers can personalize and save their daily commutes or travel routes by visiting www.traffic.com and receive personalized traffic reports via the Company's my traffic.com suite of traffic service options, which include phone, Web, mobile and on-demand reports and alerts.
