Covering Major Markets Across the U.S., Company's Sensor Network Is Also Under Construction in Los Angeles and San Francisco
November 9, 2005
Wayne, PA— Traffic.com, Inc., a leading provider of accurate, real-time traffic information in the United States, announced today that it has received Intelligent Transportation Infrastructure Program (ITIP) system approval by the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) for the Company's state-of-the-art traffic sensor deployment throughout the San Diego area.
Through the San Diego ITIP project, Traffic.com deployed wireless digital traffic sensors on San Diego's major expressways, including I-5, I-8, I-805, I-15, CA-52 and CA-163. The detailed traffic data is provided to SANDAG, the State of California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and other public agencies using a secure Web site developed, managed, and maintained by Traffic.com. This data includes real-time, lane-by-lane traffic speed and volume. Public agencies use the data for a variety of internal planning, trending, and transportation management activities that support efforts to improve infrastructure, work zone safety, crash responses, and highway operations.
In addition to the successful completion of the San Diego sensor network, Traffic.com is completing its network of roadside traffic sensors for major roadways in the Inland Empire of Los Angeles, including I-15, I-10, I-215, CA-60 and CA-91, and in San Francisco, along I-280, US 101, I-580 and I-680, CA-13 and CA-24. The three systems will provide California drivers with accurate and timely traffic data including vehicle speeds, congestion levels, and travel times. These installations are part of public-private partnerships with Caltrans, SANDAG, the San Francisco Bay Area Metropolitan Transportation Commission, and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority to provide travelers with real-time, actionable traffic information from the Traffic.com installations and data collected by the government agencies.
"San Diego is our seventh metropolitan area in which our system was accepted on the first pass adding to the proven track record of successful deployments of our traffic sensor network in cities across the U.S. Through the program, California drivers now have greater access to accurate, up-to-the-minute traffic solutions helping to alleviate the frustration of the gridlock they face each day," said David L. Jannetta, president of Traffic.com. "Our partnerships with the state and local transportation agencies benefit from a model that collects real-time, lane-by-lane traffic speed and volume and makes it usable traffic information for drivers on the go."
Travelers can access the traffic information by visiting www.traffic.com where they can create custom traffic reports and schedule delivery of the reports by email, by phone, or PDA. Whether, they travel on I-10 in Los Angeles or I-580 in the San Francisco Bay Area, Traffic.com's sensor network continuously measures the speed and congestion of traffic and immediately distributes it to consumers, businesses, and media affiliates.
Traffic.com produces the traffic information that many broadcast media affiliates use to deliver data to many California TV stations including KCBS-TV and KTLA-TV in Los Angeles; KNTV TV, KPIX-TV and KTSF-TV in San Francisco; and KGTV-TV in San Diego. Traffic.com also distributes wireless traffic information for Motorola's VIAMOTOTM navigation solution, XM Satellite Radio, and XM NavTraffic for the Acura RL and Cadillac CTS.
